Their launch on 11 April happened at 13:13.

I come from a Vedic cultural background following Sanatana Dharma as a belief system which is erroneously but popularly referred to as “Hinduism” world over!

We do not consider any number “unlucky” and in fact consider every number as unique in themselves. There are some numbers which are more unique than the others - Zero, odd numbers, 11, 108, etc are all numbers which are Vedic numbers with greater significance. However all other numbers too have a place of importance!

Reference from Bhagavata Purana:
Chapter 3.11 of Srimad Bhagavatam explains the concept of time. It starts from what is now called nano seconds and goes up to trillions of years.

I have just given couple of references (which is just the tip of iceberg). If we read with an open mind we can find many more such references. This clearly shows that ancient Indians knew a lot of mathematics, counting, decimal systems etc.

Rather than saying that Aryabhatta "invented the zero", ...he was the first person to formally define the place value system using Zero. He also elaborated on its mathematical usage. The alternative available was Roman numerals, which is not scalable (to the levels that the Vedas went). Why refer Aryabhatta and not Vedic and Puranic texts: Aryabhatta's work was intended to be a Mathematical treatise. His work summarizes the knowledge that was available with us until that time. Puranas and Itihasas on other hand, though had several references to larger and smaller numbers, were not Mathematical texts - Maths in them were incidental.”

In Korean/Japanese/Chinese culture, 4 is considered unlucky.

This is because all three countries share the same culture coming from China, which is Chinese characters. In Japan, they call it Kanji, and in Korea, they call it Hanja.

In Chinese, the number system goes like this:

一、二、三、四、五、六、七、八、九、十、…

It is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.

But the funny thing about 4 is that the pronunciation for the character 四 is the exact same to the pronunciation for the character 死, which means ‘death’ in Chinese. (I mean, it is not the exact same, but it is similar. I say this because there is 4 different ‘accents’ in Chinese language)

In this reason, 4 is considered unlucky since it connects to the meaning of ‘death.’

In Japanese, these two pronunciation match as well. 四 can be read as “Shi” and 死 can be read as “Shi” as well.

It is interesting how all three languages have the matching pronunciation for those two Chinese characters in their respective language.

For me, its absolutely yes. Although I am not kind of strong believer of numerology but this number 8 really attracts me a lot. Casually when my sub-conscious mind totals up any figure around me and result is 8, whoaaa!! I know that I am going to succeed in anything for which this number relates:

1. My CPT exams (chartered accountancy entrance exam) roll number totalled up to 8 and for the very first time ( and last time ;) ) I got ALL INDIA RANK 27th.
2. Year 2006: (2+0+0+6 = 8):

Admitted to most reputed college of my city.

Enrolled for my life changing (I should rather say life enhancing) Chartered Accountancy course.

Got All India Rank 27th as mentioned above in the same year.

Got my first two-wheeler vehicle.

Got our first OWN home after living in the city for almost 20 years on rent.

3. Year 2015: (2+0+1+5 = 8)

Achieved my childhood dream of getting a car for my family.

The thirteenth floor is a designation of a level of a multi-level building that is often omitted in countries where the number 13 is considered unlucky.

Omitting the 13th floor may take a variety of forms; the most common include denoting what would otherwise be considered the thirteenth floor as level 14, giving the thirteenth floor an alternate designation such as "12A" or "M" (the thirteenth letter of the Latin alphabet), or closing the 13th floor to public occupancy or access (e.g., by designating it as a mechanical floor).

Reasons for omitting a thirteenth floor include triskaidekaphobia on the part of the building's owner or builder, or a desire by the building owner or landlord to prevent problems that may arise with superstitious tenants, occupants, or customers. In 2002, based on an internal review of records, Dilip Rangnekar of Otis Elevators estimated that 85% of the buildings with Otis brand elevators did not have a floor named the 13th floor.

Early tall-building designers, fearing a fire on the 13th floor, or fearing tenants' superstitions about the rumor, decided to omit having a 13th floor listed on their elevator numbering. The origin of skipping the thirteenth floor when installing elevators is not known. However, during the advent of early skyscrapers, New York architectural critics warned developers not to exceed the height of the 13th floor.

These critics insisted that buildings rising above the 13th floor (130 feet or 40 metres) would lead to increased street congestion, ominous shadows and lower property values. Nevertheless, in a work published in 1939, sociologist Otto Neurath compared the use of money in an economy, which he saw as unnecessary, to the superstition of not installing the thirteenth floor: merely a social convention.

Most commonly, 13 is skipped, as in: 12, 14, 15... The floor labeled "14" on the elevator is the thirteenth floor and the number 13 is skipped on the elevator console.

Sometimes to keep numbers consistent the 13th floor is simply renumbered as 12A or 12B, as in: 12, 12A, 14.., or 12, 12B, 14; this does not affect the numbers of the higher floors. Likewise, 14A or 14B could be used for the 13th floor.

Other buildings will often use names for certain floors to avoid giving a floor on the building the number 13 designation. One such example is the Radisson Hotel in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where the 13th floor is called the Pool floor. Another example is the Sheraton on the Falls in Niagara Falls, Ontario, where the 13th floor consists solely of a restaurant. A third example is the Trump International Hotel and Tower Chicago in Chicago, Illinois, where the 13th floor is the Mezzanine floor.

Sometimes, the floor is put to some other use, such as a mechanical floor. Such usage is sometimes the subject of conspiracy theories (see below).

Because the letter M is the 13th letter in the Latin alphabet, some people may use a letter M as a substitute for the floor numbered 13, such as 12, M, 14, and so forth. In Richmond, Virginia, the Monroe Park Towers has a 13th floor, but it is used for mechanical equipment and is only accessible from the freight elevator or the stairs. The M designation on the elevator buttons of the freight elevator can also be construed as meaning the Mechanical level in this particular building, or as a Mezzanine level.

The very concept of luck is erroneous. People have long tried to find or create lucky items, bet on lucky numbers etc. It's an ancient problem. Numbers are numbers. Wikipedia has a good article on the beliefs surrounding the numbers 13 and 7. Neither number has ever been conclusively determined to be lucky or unlucky.

Example of why one might not want to bet on “special” numbers:

Back in 1986, I waited on line to purchase 5 raffle tickets as a donation to a good cause. Standing next to the guy selling the tickets was a man who insisted on purchasing the fourth ticket which he believed was his lucky number. I didn't object, so the guy got his ticket and I took the one after it. I won the grand prize: 2 third-row tickets to see the Who in their final American concert! If the guy hadn't believed in lucky numbers, he would have won instead of me.

In Britiain we have many superstitions. Some of them are more foolish than treating thirteen as unlucky for some.

Unlucky thirteen is up there with other foolish superstitious dudds and hurdles I know of and find it pays to tread carefully around those who take superstition seriously.
