For what it’s worth, my degree is in Philosophy. With only a single exception, the best engineers I’ve worked with have all had liberal arts degrees.

The above 3 items, in my humble opinion, is why people with liberal arts degrees do so well as software engineers.
Where do I start?
I’m a huge financial nerd, and have spent an embarrassing amount of time talking to people about their money habits.
Here are the biggest mistakes people are making and how to fix them:
Not having a separate high interest savings account
Having a separate account allows you to see the results of all your hard work and keep your money separate so you're less tempted to spend it.
Plus with rates above 5.00%, the interest you can earn compared to most banks really adds up.

Overpaying on car insurance
You’ve heard it a million times before, but the average American family still overspends by $417/year on car insurance.
If you’ve been with the same insurer for years, chances are you are one of them.
Pull up Coverage.com, a free site that will compare prices for you, answer the questions on the page, and it will show you how much you could be saving.
That’s it. You’ll likely be saving a bunch of money. Here’s a link to give it a try.
Consistently being in debt
If you’ve got $10K+ in debt (credit cards…medical bills…anything really) you could use a debt relief program and potentially reduce by over 20%.
Here’s how to see if you qualify:
Head over to this Debt Relief comparison website here, then simply answer the questions to see if you qualify.
It’s as simple as that. You’ll likely end up paying less than you owed before and you could be debt free in as little as 2 years.
Missing out on free money to invest
It’s no secret that millionaires love investing, but for the rest of us, it can seem out of reach.
Times have changed. There are a number of investing platforms that will give you a bonus to open an account and get started. All you have to do is open the account and invest at least $25, and you could get up to $1000 in bonus.
Pretty sweet deal right? Here is a link to some of the best options.
Having bad credit
A low credit score can come back to bite you in so many ways in the future.
From that next rental application to getting approved for any type of loan or credit card, if you have a bad history with credit, the good news is you can fix it.
Head over to BankRate.com and answer a few questions to see if you qualify. It only takes a few minutes and could save you from a major upset down the line.
How to get started
Hope this helps! Here are the links to get started:
Have a separate savings account
Stop overpaying for car insurance
Finally get out of debt
Start investing with a free bonus
Fix your credit
Good to hear that.
Before you join,
- Check the placement records of your college. Look for the quality of companies, positions/posts they are offering, salary package, etc. Especially for an mtech guy, bcoz investing another year and extra money is of no use if UG and pg students sit together to compete for same position. College matters.

All the best!
Yes you can do M.Tech in CSE. For this you should crack the GATE exam with CS code.
If you really have interest in CSE, then only i will suggest you to do so !!!
You can definitely pursue MTech in CS. All you have to do is: prepare for CSE subjects that are asked in GATE.
There are couple of colleges that will not let you choose their CSE branch as a preference in choice filling but number of colleges that allows you to do so are way more than the ones that don’t allow.
Here’s the thing: I wish I had known these money secrets sooner. They’ve helped so many people save hundreds, secure their family’s future, and grow their bank accounts—myself included.
And honestly? Putting them to use was way easier than I expected. I bet you can knock out at least three or four of these right now—yes, even from your phone.
Don’t wait like I did. Go ahead and start using these money secrets today!
1. Cancel Your Car Insurance
You might not even realize it, but your car insurance company is probably overcharging you. In fact, they’re kind of counting on you not noticing. Luckily,

1. Cancel Your Car Insurance
You might not even realize it, but your car insurance company is probably overcharging you. In fact, they’re kind of counting on you not noticing. Luckily, this problem is easy to fix.
Don’t waste your time browsing insurance sites for a better deal. A company called Insurify shows you all your options at once — people who do this save up to $996 per year.
If you tell them a bit about yourself and your vehicle, they’ll send you personalized quotes so you can compare them and find the best one for you.
Tired of overpaying for car insurance? It takes just five minutes to compare your options with Insurify and see how much you could save on car insurance.
2. Ask This Company to Get a Big Chunk of Your Debt Forgiven
A company called National Debt Relief could convince your lenders to simply get rid of a big chunk of what you owe. No bankruptcy, no loans — you don’t even need to have good credit.
If you owe at least $10,000 in unsecured debt (credit card debt, personal loans, medical bills, etc.), National Debt Relief’s experts will build you a monthly payment plan. As your payments add up, they negotiate with your creditors to reduce the amount you owe. You then pay off the rest in a lump sum.
On average, you could become debt-free within 24 to 48 months. It takes less than a minute to sign up and see how much debt you could get rid of.
3. You Can Become a Real Estate Investor for as Little as $10
Take a look at some of the world’s wealthiest people. What do they have in common? Many invest in large private real estate deals. And here’s the thing: There’s no reason you can’t, too — for as little as $10.
An investment called the Fundrise Flagship Fund lets you get started in the world of real estate by giving you access to a low-cost, diversified portfolio of private real estate. The best part? You don’t have to be the landlord. The Flagship Fund does all the heavy lifting.
With an initial investment as low as $10, your money will be invested in the Fund, which already owns more than $1 billion worth of real estate around the country, from apartment complexes to the thriving housing rental market to larger last-mile e-commerce logistics centers.
Want to invest more? Many investors choose to invest $1,000 or more. This is a Fund that can fit any type of investor’s needs. Once invested, you can track your performance from your phone and watch as properties are acquired, improved, and operated. As properties generate cash flow, you could earn money through quarterly dividend payments. And over time, you could earn money off the potential appreciation of the properties.
So if you want to get started in the world of real-estate investing, it takes just a few minutes to sign up and create an account with the Fundrise Flagship Fund.
This is a paid advertisement. Carefully consider the investment objectives, risks, charges and expenses of the Fundrise Real Estate Fund before investing. This and other information can be found in the Fund’s prospectus. Read them carefully before investing.
4. Earn Up to $50 this Month By Answering Survey Questions About the News — It’s Anonymous
The news is a heated subject these days. It’s hard not to have an opinion on it.
Good news: A website called YouGov will pay you up to $50 or more this month just to answer survey questions about politics, the economy, and other hot news topics.
Plus, it’s totally anonymous, so no one will judge you for that hot take.
When you take a quick survey (some are less than three minutes), you’ll earn points you can exchange for up to $50 in cash or gift cards to places like Walmart and Amazon. Plus, Penny Hoarder readers will get an extra 500 points for registering and another 1,000 points after completing their first survey.
It takes just a few minutes to sign up and take your first survey, and you’ll receive your points immediately.
5. Get Up to $300 Just for Setting Up Direct Deposit With This Account
If you bank at a traditional brick-and-mortar bank, your money probably isn’t growing much (c’mon, 0.40% is basically nothing).
But there’s good news: With SoFi Checking and Savings (member FDIC), you stand to gain up to a hefty 3.80% APY on savings when you set up a direct deposit or have $5,000 or more in Qualifying Deposits and 0.50% APY on checking balances — savings APY is 10 times more than the national average.
Right now, a direct deposit of at least $1K not only sets you up for higher returns but also brings you closer to earning up to a $300 welcome bonus (terms apply).
You can easily deposit checks via your phone’s camera, transfer funds, and get customer service via chat or phone call. There are no account fees, no monthly fees and no overdraft fees. And your money is FDIC insured (up to $3M of additional FDIC insurance through the SoFi Insured Deposit Program).
It’s quick and easy to open an account with SoFi Checking and Savings (member FDIC) and watch your money grow faster than ever.

5. Stop Paying Your Credit Card Company
If you have credit card debt, you know. The anxiety, the interest rates, the fear you’re never going to escape… but a website called AmONE wants to help.
If you owe your credit card companies $100,000 or less, AmONE will match you with a low-interest loan you can use to pay off every single one of your balances.
The benefit? You’ll be left with one bill to pay each month. And because personal loans have lower interest rates (AmONE rates start at 6.40% APR), you’ll get out of debt that much faster.
It takes less than a minute and just 10 questions to see what loans you qualify for.

Well, first of all its great that you have planned you future goals at this early stage. Not everyone does that this early. At your stage students are only focused on how to score maximum marks in exams/boards.
Now coming back to your question. So as you have decided that you have to become a software engineer I assume that you have taken Science in your 11th along with Computer Science as an optional subject. Now that's a must.
In order to become a successful software engineer in the future you should have strong inclination or you can say, INTEREST towards computer science or computers in gene

In order to become a successful software engineer in the future you should have strong inclination or you can say, INTEREST towards computer science or computers in general.
Throughout your 11th and 12th read computers with complete focus, dedication and interest (I'm not saying that neglect other subjects but focus more on computers). This is the time when you can build you fundamentals from ground up. Its like when you start to learn a new language they first start with alphabets then words then sentences then nouns, tenses etc. That's what is going to happen in your 11th and 12th. You will learn the fundamentals of software engineering in these two years.
So as of now just focus on the subject Computer Science and dont just rely on books prescribed by the school. Browse the web there is almost everything available out there these days.
Well uptil now I've not heard of any bad topic, which in turn means every topic is a good topic. What matter the most during dissertation is one's interest. You may find one topic useless/ or less relevant while other might be doing a lot of work in that area. So I'd say don't go by people opinion and ask yourself what attracts you the most.
Professionally I'd suggest to go in *Image Processing*. You will see a lot of work is going on in this area and recently *Google* announced to launch *Image Search* feature as well. From *Image Encryption* to *Video Processing*, this field always attracted

If Image Encryption is not your cup of tea, then burn your hands in IoT. Though a lot of work has already been done but recently *Gartner (A USA based firm)* predicted that by 2020 there will be more than 6 billion devices will be connected and 5G will act as a Catalyst to this. This is what can make your career as well.
And still you are not impressed then go for *Cloud Computing*. Though this is not a very new field in *India* but still a lot of work need to be done. People are moving towards cloud and almost all vendors are now providing cloud solutions. Here *Security* is something which you can work on.
If you need any further help then don't hesitate to buzz.
Good Luck!!
Thanks for the A2A.
Specialization in M Tech should be based on a few things:
1. Your interest
2. Industry demand
3. Infrastructure available in your college (good professors, peers and laboratories)
For my M Tech thesis, I chose Computer Vision. I made a Gesture Recognition System for Indian Sign Language.
I had always wanted to make this happen, and my abiding interest was my primary motivation. I was fortunate in the way that I was given full independence in choosing and executing my project.
look first ece students already learned about assembly language..like in microprocessors..so u just need to make urself a little forward or u can choose C bcz of hardware resemblance, aftr tht learn the strategy of oops…and u can even start with the arduino.
First of all when it comes to M.TECH branches then there would be no such branch as just software engineering .
when you refer software engineering I think you can be more clear with which particular stream/branch you are referring under it . Because when we do masters mostly the individual subject in our graduation become a whole new branch to study .
and if you talk of CS subject then yes !! ECE student can choose it.
While expertise usually differs from job to job, there are some overlapping skills that many great developers share. These usually include such things as:
* Ability to approach problems with a critical thinking;
* Passion for learning and improvement;
* Excellent communication skills and ability to effortlessly express your thoughts both in written and verbal form;
* Persistence in making sure that maximum quality of the product is achieved.
I used to think pet insurance was unnecessary (a luxury, not a necessity). That changed after my friend’s dog Bear got sick out of nowhere. What started as minor symptoms turned into an emergency vet visit, followed by a cancer diagnosis, and $20,000 in medical expenses. In that moment, I realized how quickly things can spiral when it comes to a pet’s health.
Fortunately, my friend found a pet insurance policy from this website so Bear got the treatment he needed without my friend having to make impossible financial decisions.

If you’re wondering whether pet insurance is worth it, here are a few lessons I took away from Bear’s experience:
1. Pet insurance lets you focus on care—not costs
When Bear was diagnosed, my friend didn’t have to weigh his bank account against Bear’s well-being. Pet insurance covered the bulk of the costs, making it possible to move forward with aggressive treatment options right away. It’s peace of mind when you need it most.
Look here to see pet insurance options that cover both emergencies and serious conditions like cancer.
2. It helps with more than just major illnesses
While Bear’s case was extreme, many plans also cover routine care like annual checkups, vaccinations, and preventative treatments. These smaller costs add up, and having insurance means less strain on your wallet over time.
Explore policies with coverage for routine care here.
3. Vet bills can escalate quickly—even for small issues
Before Bear’s diagnosis, the initial tests and scans alone cost thousands. It was a reminder of how even something that seems minor can rack up a big bill fast. Pet insurance ensures you’re not caught off guard when costs pile up.
4. Insurance gives you flexibility and peace of mind
Without insurance, my friend would have faced tough decisions about Bear’s treatment—choices no pet owner should have to make. With a good policy, you can focus on what’s best for your pet instead of stressing over finances.
5. It’s a smart investment for any pet owner
Whether you’re caring for a young, healthy pup or an aging senior pet, insurance can be tailored to your pet’s specific needs. It’s not just about saving money—it’s about being ready for whatever life throws your way.
So, is pet insurance a good idea? Based on what I’ve seen, absolutely. It’s not just a financial safety net; it’s a way to ensure your pet gets the best possible care, no matter the circumstances.
If you’re thinking about it, take a few minutes to explore your options. This tool makes it easy to compare plans and find the right coverage for your furry friend. It could be one of the smartest decisions you make for your pet—and your peace of mind.
If you don’t know what to study after graduation, are you sure you need a master’s degree? Depending on the country, it won’t always get you more pay or more job offers. In North America, the most useful thing to get is work experience - that’s what employers value most. If you want to work in a specific area of mechanical engineering and companies are looking for someone with a master’s in it, it might be worthwhile.
Otherwise think about your particular engineering interests and what kind of work would you most enjoy doing. Then try to get relevant work experience in that area and your career

For programmers - any of your interestes programming language.
Tester - software testing and a tool of it.
Networking - computer networks(How to connect systems in a network, how to solve a technical issue etc.)
Back end support (on data storage) - Database Management system.
Need to learn how to work on different operating systems like Windows, Unix, Ubuntu etc.
All the best.
Yes as long as you have a penchant to "build" software.... Just joking....
On a serious note, it also depends how far you have bridged the gap between your first degree and your master's degree. Some universities provide bridge courses that can close the gap but it may take a longer course completion time. If you have already had some background such as a value added course or work experience, then that weighs in favorably.
Best of luck :)
Its always good to select the familiar domain (B.Tech.),But if you are ready (willing to dedicate to the project 1 year is sufficient ) you can deviate from the domain up-to certain point.
Right now if you are not sure of your interest, Go for Cloud Computing. It is HUGE. I mean if you read papers, and understand the domain you will come to know that It has as much challenges as its advantages.
to be more specific in this domain Cloud Security is hot topic.Sky is the limit
B. Tech will be the easy and straight route. You can take B.Sc. computers and MBA Or MCA in PG. It will work. But it will take atleast 1year extra . Better get engg. Degree from any normal with good skill (you should build on your own, if needed)
90% subjects that you study in your engineering were of no use.. yes that’s correct.
You should focus on your logical skills , problem solving skills and programming languages like C Cpp java SQL .
Going further on advance technologies you will see spring Hibernet SAP cloud hadoop pig hive.
If you have completed M.Tech successfully then you are already a software engineer. Only in india people will search engineer job after being an engineer.
Yes. you can apply for other fields in Masters if you really are interested and very good at it but you'll require additional skills for that which you must develop on your own.

Thanks.

Great !
If your ambition is to become a programmer, you could do the same what you have asked !
Unless you wanna be a great scientist to invent anything in electronics or communication or both, you could do Masters in Computer Science.
My suggestion would be - in this modern well developed digital world, the scope is more towards getting the things done very fast and it should reach market ASAP.
To Explore and innovate in the world of connected devices - IoT (Internet of Things) you might heard of it., You could concentrate on Programming since you have a bachelors degree in one of the core engine

FYI - There are only a few engineers those who are good in Programming as well as strong in basics of Electronics and Communication Engineering
You could be such a one of them and you may innovate products which are in need of the near future.
Don't ever think that you will not get job - its purely how hard you try and how you make up your ambition.
My best wishes :) have your ambition focused, A single person cannot be a master in all of his UG subjects.
Shrink your mind towards your ambition and identify your area of interest and you could definitely do it.
Simple Example: Your ambition was to be great musician buy you landed up in ECE, and now, anyhow you are forced to do Masters in CSE…
Still you have the chance towards your ambition. I hope thats how Digital music instruments might have developed.
Develop an Embedded system for a musical instrument that takes a simple request from the end user who doesn't have Programming knowledge and let your programming skills inside the system that has been embedded with the instrument shall map & match with the desire of the end user.
Initially decide your career path as to work in an industry or to become an professor in engineering college.
If industry is ur option then do some PG diploma course on tool engineering or do PLC/Automation Course or NDT course to develop ur skill on it then get into a job in industry.
If teaching is ur preference then study Machine design, Mechatronics or Tool engineering according to ur interest.
All the best…
I believe you must have pursued your M.Tech in CSE. If thats the case then you must been having ample of campus placement opportunities. And even if thats's not the case then you have plethora of options to choose from, these being :
1. Join any skill oriented course that you think you are interested in or what interests you. e.g. Java, Android Application, Cloud Computing, Big Data, Java etc.
2. Apply on the job portals. Most of the job portals thrives because of the career opportunities in this sector. Basically any job portal you go through will have options for this stream unless.

- Fees changed in 3rd year.
- Years gone in worst college.
- They thinking My friends joined job after complete UG still am not. (Because of PG duration)
- Placement not arranged.
Note: Now my friends working in good companies
Don't know. Ur MSC shud already make u life ready/career ready/skills ready. U have one of the most desirable combo: CS + Math. Get into the job mkt and prove ur mettle.
Yes you can, but I must tell you it is difficult to get into an IIT when you have done your B.Tech from different trait.
I have am example, here at IET Lucknow we have a faculty who has done B. Tech in CS but M. Tech in ME that, as per me is the toughest of all and now he is the director of IET.
So, if you are really interested in CS then go for it, but you will have to study complete course of CS before opting for GATE.
Yes.
Few years back a EEE student wrote Computer Science paper in GATE. He secured AIR 1 and he joined in M.Tech CS in some IIT. So even ECE students can do this.
