Virtualbox has issues with USB support , especialy flash drives, unless you predefine flshdrives and set them up like shared folders before starting a VM , you will not be able to use your Flash dirve easly on Virtualbox.
Ubuntu guests in a Virtualbox Ubuntu host seems to lead to problems sometime requiring 2 or 3 restarts of the VM even if the guest has been properly shut down.
Ran into several issues with upgrading Virtualbox : apparently there are at least 2 versions one form the Oriacle Virtualbox website the so called PUEL version and an OSE version in the Ubuntu software Distribution. and they are INCOMPATIBLE with each other i.e. unlike Libreoffice can open a spreadsheet created by an earlier version or ven from Excel, a VM created on one of those versions annot be opened with the other
