The phrasing of your question makes me wonder if something else is going on. It’s certainly possible you have duplicate accounts on LinkedIn, or are receiving requests to connect anyway.

• Duplicate accounts. This happens to a lot of people on LinkedIn. The reasons are a bit involved, but suffice it to say it’s extremely common. I would recommend you use these steps before attempting to close a LinkedIn account: Merging or Closing Duplicate Accounts on LinkedIn
• Keep getting requests to connect. Sadly, there’s really no way to stop this I’m sorry to say.

Most of the “yes you can” replies here do not make it clear that you can only hide the profile from people who are not signed in to LinkedIn. For Linkedin “Public” means “people who are not signed in to LinkedIn”. For somebody who is signed in they can see your full profile and there is no way to hide it.

It would be nice if there was a way to temporarily hide the profile while you are editing it, but there is not. The only way of truly hiding it from everyone is deleting your account or hibernating your account. If hibernating, the account reactivates when you next log in so this does not allow the possibility of editing your profile “offline” unfortunately.

My answer - Anyone can ask anyone else to something.

The bigger question is why do they want it done and do they have the right to ask/require that you do it.

Unfortunately there are lots of ill-informed or ignorant people who don’t understand the purpose and benefit of a LinkedIn Profile. Also, most employees don’t know how or have the time to correct this situation.

Additionally, there are lots of LinkedIn Members whose LinkedIn Profiles do not represent the company they work for. This could be a reason for an employer to ask you to correct the situation. In my opinion, deleting the LinkedIn Profile would not be the right answer.

Either way, I would never delete my LinkedIn Profile because an employer tells me to do so.

I would either make my LinkedIn Profile represent me appropriately in company I am working for, or if I can’t appease the requestor, I would block them from my LinkedIn Profile so they can not see it any more.

Now, my opinion being shared, I still offer this. Only use my ideas if you feel comfortable doing so. You have to manage your own level of risk working for a company that asks you to do this.

Hi there! As fast as I'm aware, this is an option that hasn’t been introduced to all users yet. You will find it on the job search preferences of the privacy section of settings.

If you want to delete content, such as your resume, you will have to edit the job you are speaking about and rewrite it. You may also delete unsuitable jobs for your profile.

It’s really quite simple.

Except;

If you are the Group manager of a LinkedIn Group. Either close down the group or add someone else as the manager.

If you are the only admin of a LinkedIn Company Page. Since you can’t delete company pages, you’ll need to make someone else the admin.

If you have a premium LinkedIn subscription. You’ll need to cancel your subscription and wait till the subscription runs out.

If anyone wants to delete an old account on LinkedIn, follow some steps and then delete the account -

1. Log in to your account
2. then click the Setting & Privacy from your account menu at the top on the right side.
3. Click on the Account tab and then scroll down and click closing LinkedIn Account Link.

If you want to delete your account completely, you can do that via the Privacy & Settings section under the ME tab in your menu bar.

For future reference if you want to view people’s accounts anonymously there are better ways to do this than create extra accounts. For example you could make sure you’ve logged out of LinkedIn, then look up the person’s name on Google and then view their account without being logged in. If that person has a common name and is hard to find or they have switched off a lot of the details in their profile you need, you can again go into Privacy & Settings and view them anonymously. It will only say a ‘LinkedIn Member’ viewed their profile.

Please note that you need to be very carefully viewing a profile in this way and here’s why. When you switch to anonymous it takes a while to the server to register you’ve done that. So not only should you wait a few hours before you view their profile you should also wait to switch it back. If you switch it back to quickly as well, the service won’t see the on and off and just leave it on the whole time. It’s best to switch it to anonymous on a Friday night spend the weekend doing the spying on your competitors over the weekend, then switch it back Monday morning.

But why would you do that when one of the main or the top rated values is your profile timeline. Having an old profile in sense “aged” is a great advantage. All you have to do is to let it be.
