  • Men can feel displaced and unsure of their role when changes in expectations/norms occur - such as the women's movement. They can feel threatened and 'redundant' if the values they grew up with are no longer seen as valuable/admirable etc., Men of a certain generation may find it harder to adjust to the idea of 'equality' and also not understand that a non-sexist attitude is not unmasculine. It's about what ideas of masculinity/femininity they have acquired from their own parents and peer groups. Some men even feel less sexually interested in women they perceive as more powerful, if they've been taught that a woman 'should' behave in a particular way, submissive etc.,
