Product Description

This user-friendly and portable sewing and quilting machine offers a wide range of quilting and sewing features at an affordable price. The CS6000i features 60 built-in sewing stitches, including decorative stitches and 7 styles of one-step buttonholes. There are 9 presser feet included in this machine - buttonhole, overcasting, monogramming, zipper, zigzag, blindstich, button fitting, walking, and spring action quilting foot. This machine also includes a detachable wide table that is perfect for larger quilting projects. The Brother CS6000i sewing machine has been engineered for ease of use. A simple-to-view backlit LCD display, an automatic needle threader, easy-to-follow threading diagrams, and an adjustable sewing speed control system are all included. An easy-to-see, brightly lit sewing area is quite helpful when sewing on dark fabrics. An automatic needle threader has been added to perfectly align thread through the needle. A built-in free arm helps to assist with sewing pant legs, sleeves, and other cylindrical items. The CS6000i sewing machine also includes a hard machine case, making it a perfect traveling sewing machine. The CS6000i sewing and quilting machine includes a printed Quick Start guide and complete instructions manuals in English and Spanish. We do not recommend using this machine in countries that do not support 120V AC, even if a voltage adapter is in use. This sewing and quilting machine includes a bilingual user manual, a 25-year limited, and free technical support for the life of the product.

Check pressure foot position before giving up on sewing!

Check pressure foot position before giving up on sewing!
I bought my first CS6000i 9 years ago as a factory refurb and loved it! I finally worn it out to the point that it would cost more to fix it than to replace it. I wanted to buy the same exact machine, but no one seams to carry it, so naturally I turned to Amazon....and because of their Customer Service, I'm really glad I did, The 1st machine I got I couldn't get the tension balanced. I did everything I knew of (trying different needles, different thread, different combos of the two) and followed everything in the manual. I even went online to Brother to see if there was something I missed. After crossing my "T"s and dotting my "I"s and getting frustrated I contacted Amazon. They sent me a 2nd one, no problem...or so I thought. It worked but seemed like I had to work at it too. It just seemed to take more effort than my other needed. At this point I was not piecing quilts, just making masks, so I was just using the edge of my pressure foot as a guide. But still, something just seemed off. It finally hit me that the needle was not lining up with the mid-line on the pressure foot. So I took it to my local Authorized Brother Repair (Quality Sew & Vac). The Rep thought that it was really odd too, but showed me how to move the needle into position....DID NOT KNOW THIS SO PASSING IT ALONG if you put the needle in position 00 you can move the needle ANYWHERE between the left and right by using the "zigzag" button ( the button below the stitch length button) ... The manager came over, took one look at the machine, and said that the needle was position was fine. The pressure foot wasn't square with the feed dogs. Never did that possibility cross my mind! I thought, okay, maybe I can make this work. That was, until I tried to use my walking foot. I'm 70 years old and my hands can sometimes be less steady than I'd like. I'm also trying to learn quilting and that scant 1/4" can be iffy. The walking foot, when set up correctly, made it a lot more doable. With this machine it wasn't. It didn't sew straight. Once more I contacted Amazon. I explained what was wrong and that I no longer had the box to return the machine. And once more, they sent me a new machine. And when I pulled it out to check it...IT HAD THE SAME PROBLEM! I didn't have to do anything more than unpack it to see that the "J" foot wasn't square. This can be a GREAT machine, especially for beginners. But if you're having problems and thinking that maybe sewing is just not for you, PLEASE check you pressure foot. That center line on your pressure foot should be in the middle of needle plate. If it is off center like my walking foot is in the pictures, it's the machine and NOT YOU! I now have another Brother machine, this time a CS70001. It works just fine. This one I'm keeping.

I have actually bought three of these machines - the first was for me - after not having had a sewing machine for years, I missed sewing, but I didn't have a budget for my dream machine. This one had great reviews and the price was crazy low for all the features, so I took a chance. It turned out to be smooth and reliable, so easy to operate! I loved the buttonholes that it made and the overedge stitches for seam finishing.

I loved it so much that I bought another one for my mother in law, and another one for my best friend.

They're quite sturdy, considering all the plastic in the housing. Very easy to work with and advanced enough that a new sewist will not outgrow its capabilities quickly.

Nice stitch quality with a lot of decorative and utility stitches built in.

I like the speed control and a Stop/Start button on the front of the machine so that you don't have to use the foot control. This was necessary for my friend who is a paraplegic.

I don't recall it being particularly noisy, even when sewing heavier fabrics like "cork leather" or waterproof canvas. It handled all the fabrics I use most often though I did have to hand crank through the heaviest seam junctions.

I eventually gave mine away, so I don't know how it's doing, but the other two are still functioning just fine at about 10 and 12 years old.

Amazing amount of versatility and reliability for this price. For the beginning hobby sewist, I would consider this a starter machine - use it and upgrade when it dies - at this price, it's almost disposable. Add a Brother 1034D serger at about the same price and you're set to do any kind of sewing you like.

This is my second experience with sewing machines. My first was a toy Singer sewing
machine that I just returned because it was was dead on arrival (well, shortly after
actually). That was a Christmas gift for my daughter - a great idea, and though we
had not thought of giving her one ourselves (my wife does not sew either) she was very
excited about it when she opened it. Unfortunately when I called the Singer toy
sewing machine support line they recommended returning it because they suspected a
faulty part that they did not have in stock. That turned out to be a lucky break for
    us.

So we ventured to Sears to check out what else was available, where we saw the Singer 7442
and a few cheaper models. It seemed like it would be nice to able to do more than
just simple stitches, and the prices were not all that different ($140 - 200). A quick
look at Amazon at the 7442 lead us to this Brother. Because the reviews were slightly
better for the Brother CS6000i (and because I had just returned a Singer, and was not
all that excited about getting another of that brand) I bought the Brother. After using
it for a few days I am very happy with this purchase.

I gave it five stars, because for the price it really is a very nice machine (which you can
read about in other reviews here). Easy to use, with lots of options that actually work
and do make it easier to use. It does seem to have high quality parts where it matters.
It is fun for her to have the wide variety of stitches, and the one step button hole feature
might be useful if she gets more into sewing.

But nothing is perfect, and so here are the downsides that I did not see much written in
    other reviews are:

It comes with a cheap (bottomless) cover that can't be called a case. It can't even really
be called a dust cover since it has a hole near the top so you can reach the handle of the
machine to carry it. It doesn't hold the additional pieces of the machine either.
Brother should have just just saved that poor tree instead of including this 'case'.
I'll be storing the machine and the additional parts in the original box and foam packaging.
Although that is a quite a bit bigger than really necessary, it will provide much better
protection than the 'case'. It's too bad they didn't spend just a little more on the box
packaging and give up on the 'case' idea. They could have made the box a very functional and
protective storage mechanism if they just made it easier to pack.

The machine is constructed with a fair amount of plastic (though it seems to be metal in the places
where it matters). The 25 year guarantee gives me some hope, but in general when I think
of something made of plastic with electronics in it, longevity does not come to mind. When
I was looking at the antique Singers (401a, etc), all made of metal, still working after
30-40 years, I felt a pang of anguish for our society that has shifted from making and buying
high quality long-lasting products in the US to off-shore produced planned obsolescence.
What a waste of resources, pity about pollution through the whole process, not to mention
the jobs. I will be surprised if the LCD and electronics in this system are still working
in even 10 years (I'm going to try holding on to the receipt for the life of the 25 year
warranty because I bet it will come in handy at some point). Maybe I'll tape it to that
    cheap cover....

The manual is quite good (without really knowing anything about sewing I was able to
get the machine set up and sewing in about an hour), but would be much better if it were
specific to this model. There are many places in the model where it says, "Or you can do
this if your model has this feature." Well, there are times when I'm reading it when I'm not
sure if my model has that feature, and it takes some time to figure it out. It really
seems like Brother should be able to print different versions of the documentation for
their different machines at not much extra cost. I would pay a few more dollars in
the overall price to have a customized user manual. On a positive note, every time I've
hit one of those sections so far, this model does have the feature.

I bought this sewing machine for use by myself and my teen daughters. I had barely any experience using a machine, but they had all taken a class in middle school that taught them sewing machine basics. I wanted something that offered basic functions, but that we can expand on as we gain skill. Two of my daughters are also trying their hand at historical reenactment, and I wanted this machine to be able to make costumes. The machine has some nice features to expand to. Because it’s controls are digital, it takes a little learning. I found that the manual could easily be followed step-by-step. I used it like a textbook, and began working my way through it from front to back. I experimented with all of the different stitches and buttonholes on a scrap of fabric. It clearly described steps, and the terminology wasn’t over my head. However, there are two things I learned from videos and reviews more than the manual: how to thread the needle using the built in needle threader, and, most importantly, what brands of thread to use. Thankfully, the two most recommended thread brands - Gutermann and Coats & Clark - also happen to be the most common (and affordable) at our local Joann’s. The machine comes with three bobbins, but it also doesn’t hurt to pick up a few more if using many different colors of thread. The machine also comes with a decent selection of different presser feet, tools for cleaning, etc. The various small parts pack into a small pouch, and the pouch can be stored in the machine base. The quilting platform fits nicely onto the base to expand it, and can be helpful with other tasks, as well. We have used the machine so far to make rice heat packs, reverse engineer a costume, and make curtains for the windows and nesting boxes of a chicken house. The machine has performed well, and any problems have generally been user error because we didn’t review the manual instructions well. I have monitored how clean the machine stays, and kept up on minor maintenance. It is stored, cover off, in a large cabinet. I did buy a free standing lamp to help increase visibility at night because the built in light only illuminates a small space, and the ceiling light above our work area is not extremely bright and is off for the angle of work. Overall, I am very happy with this Brother machine. The price was not exorbitant, it does what we need, it doesn’t lose calibration (like a cheap Singer that someone once bought me as a gift) or need frequent repairs. Because of my experience with this machine, I would recommend Brother machines, this model especially, to those who want a good basic machine that offers the ability to have fun learning new skills.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use, sews vinyl/denim, nice extras

I bought this machine to replace an old Singer that had been in our family for about fourty years. About a year and a half ago, I discovered cosplay, and I’ve been sewing my own costumes since. My old machine was struggling after so many years, and I wanted options like fancy stitches and one-step buttonholes. This machine absolutely stepped up to the task. I can see through multiple layers of vinyl (granted, not at top speed, but still at a decent clip), the fancier stitches look gorgeous, and I love the little extra features that I’ve never experienced before.
The see-through bobbin case is a big plus for me, as I love being able to double-check that I have enough thread. The needle threader, which I’ve never had before, works like a charm, and it takes me barely twenty seconds to retread my machine now. It’s also way quieter than my old machine, and just has a nice sound about it.
All of the accessories that came with it work well. The walking foot is a revelation, and my new favourite toy when sewing stretch fabric. As aforementioned, it’s really easy and quick to re-thread the machine. There’s a sticker with a simple diagram up top, and each piece that you use when threading the machine is numbered.
It’s pretty easy to switch out needles and feet. The computer part works well; I have no issues scrolling quickly through the stitches, and I appreciate that it tells you which foot to use for which stitch.
I’ve sewn through a lot of different types of fabric, and this machine has held up well under all of them. I wanted something that was multi-purpose but had more options than my ancient Singer offered. This one was a fantastic choice, and I’m really glad it’s the one I got.

I totally love my new computerised sewing machine. It’s transformed my sewing in a huge way. Still can’t work out how to do the automatic bobbin threader yet as I’m not sure how you put the thread around the bit above the needles so I’m doing it the old fashioned way lol. I have still kept a hold of my we basic brother machine because it’s fab too but the new one will help me do more things than before. I also have the brother overlocked which is fab too. I would highly recommend all these machines. The prices are amazing. The set up instructions easy and straightforward except the automatic bobbing threader bit. I have had my other 2 machines for about 4 years and they are still going strong. Great make and excellent customer service if you need it. I could never use another make as these machines are phenomenal. I did see another computerised brother machine which does even more and I will probably invest in further down the line. 100% recommend anyone looking at this product or the other 2 because they have never let me down.

I am autistic and very sensitive to sound. I have wanted a sewing machine for a long time because i sew everything by hand and some things can take hours for something very small. This machine is very easy to use for beginners, quiet and enjoyable.

I can’t really say much on weight as I’ve never owned a machine before but it’s light enough for me to carry from upstairs to downstairs when I need to use it and the case keeps it well protected.

I tried two other lower priced machines for my friend and they were terrible. This machine is amazing., I am a professional seamstress with top of the line machines and was pleasantly surprised with this one! The table is very nice to use, it is very user friendly. I didn’t even read the instructions and was able to use it. The only thing I had a bit of a problem with was the needle threader. The instructions are not clear enough and I didn’t have time to fool with it I just threaded it myself!
It has a needle up button which is good, backstitch which stitches backwards on straight stitches and in the same spot on zigzag stitches.
This has many options that higher end machines have except it does not have a cut thread button. lol you get lazy when you have that button.
It is much quieter and smoother running than the two lower priced ones.
It went through my husband’s lined denim jeans when I took them in. That is a lot of thickness and it didn’t stall, make a noise just went through it like butter!
If you want my opinion, this is the machine I would buy myself. Even to take to classes it is so light and easy to pack and carry.
The hard cover that comes with it, the styrofoam inside it stays in there to give it a secure fit so don’t take it out!
Spend the extra money and get a great machine that will last you for years and you will enjoy it!
