The Community Arts Partnership (CAP) at CalArts offers a range of innovative arts education programs for youth and communities, emphasizing creativity and artistic expression. These programs include visual arts, music, dance, theater, and media arts, providing hands-on learning experiences led by professional artists and educators. CAP aims to empower participants by fostering artistic skills, critical thinking, and collaboration.
We invite all high school students, regardless of skill level, to apply to the CalArts CAP Photography Lab Program. This twelve-week program is for students interested in learning about analog photography. Advanced students will have the opportunity to work with color film. All equipment and other materials will be provided. Classes are taught on campus by faculty from the CalArts School of Art department alongside current CalArts students. The program ends with an exhibit of the students’ work in May 2025.

The Sony Pictures Media Arts Program (SPMAP) is a free after-school animation program offered through a partnership between the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, the CalArts Community Arts Partnership, Sony Pictures Entertainment, and the Los Angeles Public Library. This year, in alignment with the California State Arts Standards, this class will explore the principles of animation, animation history, comics, storyboarding, story development, character design, world-building, stop motion, video creation, and much more! SPMAP is open for students ages 11-17 who have expressed an interest in animation and/or art. All supplies are provided.
CAP Summer Arts (CAPSA) is a free four-week summer arts program for high school students in Los Angeles County. It is currently on pause as we select a site location. CAPSA will resume in the summer of 2026.
